Scenic Rim 4x4Park

Scenic Rim Boys weekend

Our 2nd trip to Scenic Rim 4x4 Park just South of Beaudesert in QLD. This trip was much dryer than the last. The park has quite a few tracks but the majority are suited to those just happy to drive some basic tracks. There are some extreme comp truck stuff but not a lot for those wanting to flex.

Flanagans via Kyogle (Bells Bay / Toonumbar Dam)

We decided (after much research) to try out a new camp ground called Bells Bay at Toonumbar Dam about 30k outside Kyogle. It involved a 3 hour drive through some very windy narrow roads to arrive at our planned destination.

We arrived in pitch black darkness to find a very small camp ground on the side of a hill with the only access to the dam via a narrow boat ramp - we think. We were expecting something very different. After a quick surveillance of our supposed home for the next 3 nights we decided to turn around and head back through the windy road all the way back to Flanagan Reserve.

Much to everyone's delight we were able to find Eagle Boys in Kyogle (they do Gluten free pizza) so with full tummy's we finally made our destination after 5 and a half hours.

Despite the showers on Saturday we all enjoyed sitting around the fire and going for a paddle in the boat.

This baby possum had a bad day. After being rescued from this Skip bin he scurried up a tree. Only a few metres up the tree and it was attacked by a Kookaburra. The fight on the ground ended with the Possum biting the Kookaburra around the next until it flew off.

Levuka Easter 2013

Easter at Levuka included the Percy's, the Simpkins, Nick Veraart and TeamBray. After setting up on Thursday night we set ouNic out on the trackst to check out the tracks on Friday.

Saturday was Superhero Day and it was great to see everyone get into the spirit of the day including Baby Hulk (aka Mitchell). We set out in the morning to do Rosemary's Track. We soon found out that this was going to be a challenge and after 3 hours and only being halfway through the decision to turn around was made (it was much quicker going down than it was up).

On Sunday we had an Easter Egg hunt before the boys went out to conquer Rosemary's Track. Five and bit hours later they returned to camp very muddy, wet and hungry but feeling victorious as they had achieved their goal.

Monday was time to head home but not before the Ladies had a drive through the rainforest.

Thanks to everyone who helped make Easter camp another memorable occasion.

Scenic Rim 4x4 Park - Boys weekend

Dry weekends are few and far between in Queensland lately. Many pulled out of the Scenic Rim 4x4 weekend. You could hardly blame them.

On arrival the park owner Wendy suggested we must be keen (mad?) to want to enter the park this weekend. We laughed it off.

There will be video to add to this post later which will do a much better job at showing exactly how slippery the tracks were.

Australia Day II Flanagan Reserve

They dubbed it Australia Day II so of course that meant it was going to rain. The storm followed us into camp and soon after setting up it was raining.

Amanda forgot her camera so all these pics came from the iPhone.

I managed to cook a simple dinner on the fire during a shower. Yep, this is Australia Day weather !

It rained hard the whole night ... but we woke up to a perfect camp morning.

The Logan River was up again and there were plenty of lizards out looking for a feed.

We bumped into a family from our kids school. They were into Archery and we had a few shots. Good fun.

Time for dinner - Roast Pork. We preheated the camp oven 10 minutes. In with the Hillmans Rolled Pork. Some coals underneath and some serious coals on top. 30 min later a quick look revealed crackling was gonna be good. Here's the finished product after 70 minutes.
