Woodgate 2013/14 Part 2

Catch of the Day

After a fun morning catching yabbies for bait we decided to fish on the incoming high tide the next day. This meant getting up at 4.00am - craziness. Some of us saw another sunrise (the two girls decided to give fishing a miss). Colin caught the first and only fish. Luckily the beautiful sky made up for the lack of fish.

Woodgate 2013/14 Part 1

We arrived at Woodgate a few days earlier than usual. This meant things were a bit quieter than usual. After setting up we headed straight for the beach. Despite a few jelly fish bobbing around the water was great.

An Early Sunrise

Colin and the kids decided to get up at 4.30am on Christmas Eve to watch the sunrise over the ocean.

An early start to the day with present unwrapping. The kids were all amazed that we managed to find a place to hide everything in the van. A trip to the beach was followed by a lunch of fresh prawns and salad. In the afternoon we all had a nap and then another trip to the beach

Agnes Water / 1770 - Roadtrip 2012

Everyone we spoke to at home about Agnes Water loved the place so we were excited to head to our last camp.
We arrived into Agnes Water and drove along toward 1770 to the Captain Cook Caravan park. This isn't the council owned park we'd heard about but was still a great spot.

From the caravan park we saw a sign saying 'Beach 900m' and thought we would make the walk to check it out. It was a hot afternoon and it sure felt longer than 900m! Arriving at the beach couldn't have come soon enough although I knew all of us weren't going to make the walk up the rocky track to camp. Madi & Colin headed back to camp to bring down the car.
We have been spoilt at Woodgate, being able to take the nice, short, easy walk to the beach - no need for the car.

The next day we went into 1770 to explore the Council caravan park. A great location and super busy if you're camping in school holidays! We spoke to the manager and this place is booked out more than 12 months in advance. The views out front of here were awesome - we figured you could sit out here and relax all day..... so we did.

Flat Rock - Deepwater NP

We packed some gear (and rods) and headed into Deepwater National park to check out Flat Rock and the 2 camp areas - Middle Rock and Wreck Rock.
The drive in was quite easy with just a few sandy spots to slow you down. We went through fine at highway tyre pressures. Nathan had a steer for a short while too which made the girls quite nervous. It was around 5km in from the sealed road to Flat Rock. Middle Rock camp ground was a few km further with Wreck Rock camp around 9km from the black stuff. Wreck rock has an outside cold shower and a drop toilet. Both camps offered very private camping and both could be accessed with a basic 4x4 and camper trailer. If you decide to just show up and camp there is a sign advising you phone QParks or go online to pay your camp fees. Only problem .... no phone reception :)

1770

On our last day we went back into 1770 so see some of the lookouts. On one of the walks we spotted more turtles swimming in around the rocks.

We then thought it was time to find a beach. Nothing we found would beat Flat Rock so we settled for the 900m drive to the beach near camp where the girls thought they'd make yet another huge sand castle.

Great Keppel Island Cruise - Roadtrip 2013

Our 2013 Roadtrip changed considerably after cutting short our time in Winton. While camped at Emu Park, East of Rockhampton, we decided a Cruise to Great Keppel Island was a great idea. There were quite a few options but after reading reviews on www.tripadvisor.com we booked ourselves with SailCapricornia (www.sailcapricornia.com.au) for a day cruise. The trip included a cruise to the island (max. 25 passengers), lunch, morning and afternoon tea, non-alcoholic drinks, all snorkelling gear plus dinghy transfers to the island if you only wanted to get your feet wet.

After leaving Keppel Marina we commenced our 90 min journey across to Monkey Beach on Great Keppel Island for lunch, snorkelling and some exploring of the island.
