2016 Uluru Road Trip - Goondiwindi - HOME (well so we thought)

What should have been a short day driving turned out to be one of our biggest yet. We had a few big decisions on this trip - the first being to buy an investment property in Gatton. So we had lined up an inpsection of a house for on our way through.

We also decided to buy another puppy - Clifton is close to Gatton right? well in comparision to where we have just been it is so whats another 200km.

House Inspected - tick
Pick up new puppy - tick (after another drive up the Toowoomba range back tracking)

And finally we were on our way home.

What an amazing journey - we would do it again tomorrow if we had the chance.

2016 Uluru Road Trip - Lightning Ridge - Goondiwindi

We stopped for the night in a very small quaint caravan park in Goondiwindi. It was much warmer and the wind had stopped.

We went for a walk along the river - mostly so Colin and the kids could catch Pokemon (which had become a thing to do since we left on our trip.

Nearly HOME!! One more day.

2016 Uluru Road Trip - Cobar - Lightning Ridge

A slight detour on our trip home - we decided to check our Lightning Ridge. Another amazing place.

The caravan park we stayed at put on wood fired pizza in the afternoon which was a great way to meet new people.

We checked out some caves with incredible engravings.

2016 Uluru Road Trip - Coober Pedy - Peterborough

This was the start of the trip home. We wanted to cover as much distance as possible.

Pulling out of Coober Pedy we drove into a strong side wind all the way down to Port Augusta. A quick lunch stop (a big storm had just come through) and we were off to see how far we could get.

We decided to stop at Peterborough. It was absolutley freezing. The kids had a quick play on the playground before we bunkered down in the van with the heater to avoid the sleet.

A quick over night stay in Peterborough
Colin trying to cook dinner - the chicken started to freeze rather than cook.

2016 Uluru Road Trip - Coober Pedy - Lake Eyre Day Trip

We had booked a flight in a small plane over Lake Eyre. We drove out to William Creek - a small town (not even really a town) on the Oondatta Track to board this small plane.

The views from the air were amazing. However little did I know that I do not travel well in small planes. I have never felt so sick - eventually Colin got me back in the car for thr 160km of dirt road back to the van.

2016 Uluru Trip - Yulara - Coober Pedy

On arriving in Coober Pedy we found our Caravan Park and quickly set up. Camp sites are small and we were lucky to have one big enough to pull out our awning. Although we quickly found that it was too windy most of the time to have it out.

We headed out to stock up on some essentials - which is where Colin decided to try Kangaroo Kebabs. Everyone loved them except Madi who refused to try them. We also went to the information centre and decided to cancel a couple of tours we had booked to do seld drive instead. This gave us heaps more flexibility.

First stop was Crocodile Harrys Underground Nest. This was amazing although it a bit strange. Walking through his old house - so much to see. Harry had a thing for the ladies.

The next day we headed out to do a drive through the Breakaways and Moon Plain. We came across some amazing landforms. We also stopped along the Dog Fence.

Look who we found!

Back in town we did a few more touristy things - checked out the Big Winch, Underground Church, the Cemetry, Toms working mine and Fayes Underground Home.
