Woodgate 2010/2011 Thurs 30th Dec

We arrived at Woodgate for our 6th consecutive year for Christmas holidays. We expect rain at Woodgate but not floods! Our camp site had waterfront views but our beds are 3 feet off the ground now so we're ok. Many were not as lucky with rain flooding through their tents.
The rain eased on our 3rd day and we hit the beach.
Today is our 4th day and the sun is out. Some roads around are still flooded but there is now fresh bread at the shops. Since we've not had bread there is nothing to share with the Kangaroos.

Sept 2010 trip - Day 9 - Woodgate

It was SO relaxing waking up to the sound of waves on the beach. The tides are perfect for a morning low tide swim.
We took ABs Patrol on the beach for a bit of fun. At 40psi and still a heap of firewood in the back it was a tad sluggish. Executive decision was made - we bring the Bravo here at Christmas - more practical.
For lunch we could not resist the Chippy sandwiches - regular Christmas Woodgate lunch menu.
Later the kids took Wally to the beach .. and buried him ..... :) he got his revenge. The local Fisho was in town ... prawns for dinner.
Tomorrow we'll have another low tide swim then head home but detour inland as the highway is sure to be busy busy busy. 6 hours inland driving. We can then go pick up Lizzie and hopefully get an early nights sleep.

Sept 2010 trip - Day 8 - Wuruma Dam / Woodgate

We woke up at the dam and expected to have a nice relaxing day. Lazy morning. Roast dinner.
After CB cooked breakfast on the campfire the kids started to get bored. Loz even started doing Karate Kid impressions. AB asked CB 'how long on the GPS to get to Woodgate' - GPS carved out a nice track direct to the coast. Its 3 hours drive. "let's go". We packed up and hit the road. 4 hours later we were in Woodgate, on our 'Christmas' site, setup and ready to go to the beach.
To say 'the kids were excited to be at Woodgate' would be an understatement.
Tomorrow - the Patrol hits the beach to make the Trifecta of Mud, Flood and Sand in the one trip!!

Sept 2010 trip - Day 7 - Wuruma Dam

On day 7 we headed out of Carnarvon Gorge. After wondering why there was not much oncoming traffic ... and why a passing guy flashed his hazard lights we come to our first Closed Road. After AB recently explained our insurance does not cover us on Officially Closed Roads.... we went through. On the other side was the town of Rolleston and lots of travellers being warned by locals not to cross and ruin their road .... But the Road Trains went through .... Work that out !!??
After a quick stop in Moura to check out the Free Stay camp we opted to move on. Luckily we did as we found a very nice free-stay Wuruma Dam.
I dug a hole ;) and we had the van level.
We finally got to have a decent fire and CB cooked up some meat.

Sept 2010 trip - Day 5 - Carnarvon Gorge

Today we did a 7.5klm nature which tested the team. So many cool places along the way to Moss Gardens. We finally met some friendly people - we had started to wonder whether this place attracted different sorts of campers cause no-one here seemed real friendly today. By the time we got back to camp the kids thought they had walked a Marathon. A quick lunch and we headed out to the Rock pools for a relax.
At night we had a guided tour with Simon. We saw heaps of the Nightlife including various types of Frogs, Gliders, Kangaroos and a few owls. This was a great walk - just a shame for Nathan as his legs 'would not work'

Sept 2010 trip - Day 4 - Carnarvon Gorge

Day 4 we left the farm at Roma and made our way to Carnarvon Gorge. Along the way we saw where a car was washed away in flood waters.
We set up in record time and went for a walk to check out the Platypus pool. No Platypus but a few Kangaroo and Turtles.
Later we sat and listened to Simon - the local bloke that knows all about the place. He'll be taking us on a Night Nature Walk to see the local Night Life.
