Longreach - Roadtrip 2013

Longreach was hot, dry and dusty but had plenty to keep us occupied. We rolled though town to check out Apex Riverside Park - a popular Free Stay. It certainly was popular but looked hot and dusty. Options back in town didn't look all that inviting so we picked our patch of dirt at the Free Stat. Home for the next 3 nights.

Of course you can't visit Longreach without visiting the QANTAS museum. A very hands on experience which we all enjoyed.

The Free stay Apex Riverside park is a popular spot for travellers. Located amongst the Longreach 'Common' land it's a popular area for locals too. The site is adjacent to the Thompson river which we understand is good for Yellow Belly.

Whilst it was generally too hot to want to cook much TeacherMum got busy and made a yummy breakfast.

We met some travellers from Rockhampton - Percy Parrot was one of them. Percy was quite popular and, as expected, has her own Facebook page. We bumped into Percy in Winton where I don't think she was enjoying the heat. Neither were we !!

You can visit Longreach and see the Qantas Founters Museum, visit the Stockmans Hall of Fame but if you don't experience Kinnon and Co then you're missing out.

TeacherMum had us booked in to see the Kinnon & Co

  • Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show
  • Cobb & Co stagecoach experience (as warned "this is an experience, not a fun park ride)
  • Thomson River Cruise including bush poetry, dinner and the new Starlight's Spectacular Sound and Light Show

Everything Kinnon & Co did was very professionally done. At the end of the Cruise night Richard Kinnon stood up and was very humble in stating what the family has provided and how much they need the 'city cousins' to visit their town. Richard gave a genuine thank you to the large group that him and his crew had been busy entertaining and feeding for the entire day.

Check out the video we took along the way

Lots of interesting displays here. Unfortunately we didn't see the show as it was overbooked and there were only FULL SUN seats left. Yuk it was too hot for that.

As you can see - plenty to do in Longreach. Next stop - Winton.
